In order to assist you in proving an actual return on your investment, a meeting or a workshop must be conducted after the implementation of a service, such as training facilitation or mentoring etc., to identify whether the expected benefits of the said service were indeed met.
Various parties will profit from this appraisal. Firstly, the client will assess whether the actual knowledge transfer was successful and whether their expected befits have been realised. Secondly, the direct beneficiaries of the service will recognise their improved skills and potentially identify any steps for future improvement. Finally, the appraisal will provide an acute understanding of the clients operations and lead to a more focused, tailored approach to any future services.
The appraisal should be conducted in a timeframe of 1 to 3 months after the implementation of the service.
The appraisal is conducted as a meeting or workshop which will be driven by a skilled facilitator. The suggested participants should be the intended beneficiaries of the service as well as the sponsor who initiated the service.
Depending on the nature of the service provided and the number of beneficiaries attending, the workshop duration will vary from 2 to 8 hours.
The key to the success of the appraisal is maintaining a strong focus on the documented requirements and expectations of the client prior to the service being implemented. Any action item lists created by the beneficiaries during the service provided should be brought to the workshop. Any evidence of improved performance or processes should be made available during the workshop. A suitable venue to conduct such a workshop including the necessary presentation media is required.
The client will be able to ascertain whether they obtained an adequate return on their investment for the service provided. At the conclusion of the appraisal, a written report will be provided. The report will include the key knowledge transfer points, any efficiency or process improvements, an identified gap between expectation and reality, the identification of a possible skills gap, the identification of a path for improvement and any lessons learned from the overall process implemented thus far.
